New Carlisle, Indiana. Kelley and her family have been raising swine and sheep all her life, and have been raising Tamworths the last 10 years, she
is married to Brad Bradshaw and they are the parents to 2 young sons,
4 year old Lucas and Caleb born in February 2013. She works for her
family run business, Zahl's Elevator and Feed Mill. — Welcome Kelley!

Shirley Brattain Retires — Tamworth Secretary Position is Open

SHIRLEY BRATTON

The Board announces with regret the retirement of our long time Secretary, Shirley Brattain. The Brattains have been involved in breeding and showing Tamworths since 1960. They have made a great contribution to the breed and we have been privileged to have Shirley as our secretary since December 2001, when she succeeded Tom Fenton.

This now leaves a position that must be filled and should be filled soon. Anyone interested in the position should apply promptly via email directed to Dave LaFollette, who will circulate all applications to each of the Board members. If you do not use email, you may mail it to him. You must include a resume, but please include as well a description of why you are interested in the position and any skills or qualities you have that you think would be of particular value. All applications will be considered and a careful decision made by the entire Board. You may be contacted with questions or a request for an interview. We would like to have the applications in by April 7, 2013.

Tamworth Swine Association — Tamworth Queens 2013

For 2013 we are once again lucky to have two returning Tamworth Queens. We appreciate having these young ladies continue to inform the public about the Tamworth Breed of pigs. They both exhibit their Tamworth pigs at their County Fairs and also at the Indiana State Fair. They also help with the many activities of the Tamworth Swine Association.

Over 3,000 juniors from 46 states across the nation are members of Team Purebred. Team Purebred offers opportunities to members ages 21 and under through national and regional junior shows, leadership events, and educational contests.

 

Tamworth Queens 2012-2013

Thoughts from Dave — President, Tamworth Swine Association

I’m hoping that everyone has had a great start to 2012. I’m excited to hear how everyone’s farrowing is going. I would like to thank those who attended the 2011 National Show and Sale. If you haven’t been able to join us in the past, I hope that you’ll make plans to attend in 2012. The show and sale will be held in Greencastle, Indiana. The banquet will be held Saturday September 1st with the show and sale held on Sunday, Sep. 2nd.

We will again have a junior show on September 2nd. Prize money will be awarded to the top 3 placing gilts in each class with additional money awarded to the Champion and Reserve Champion overall. We will also offer showmanship classes starting with Pee Wees up to Seniors. Gilts shown in the Junior Show cannot be shown in the Breeding Show and will not be eligible for the sale.

Exciting news for the Junior members in 2012. The Tamworths have been asked to join Team Purebred at their Summer Type Conference National Jr. Summer Show, held June 27 to June 30 in Springfield, Illinois. This is a FUN and EDUCATIONAL experience for our youth. Watch the Tamworth website, www.TamworthSwine.org and the Team Purebred website, www.TeamPurebred.com for more information.

The Tamworth Swine Association will hold the Annual Meeting & Banquet on Saturday, September 1st at the Putnam Inn Restaurant with Social Hour 6:00—6:30pm, followed by Dinner at 6:30pm. The following day, the Show & Sale will take place beginning at 12 noon concluding with the sale at 5:00pm. The Show & Sale will take place at the Putnam County Fairgrounds, US 231 North, Greencastle, Indiana.

Hope this finds all getting ready for Christmas and getting the farrowing house ready to fill with sows in a couple of weeks.  Boy how time flies. Seems not long since we just got thru the summer farrowing.

By now trust you have all gotten acquainted with our new web page. If you haven't you have missed something. Lots of things going on there and you sure don't want to be left out. Takes a little getting used to but do take time to try. You'll be able to fill out litter reports and send to me—faster than the mail—transfers come that way too, so I'll always have something to do. We have several new members and that's a real help for the Association.
